Digital Controls’ Plus Technologies division and Standard Register Provide Print Management Solution at Disney

Dayton, Ohio—The Plus Technologies division of Digital Controls announced today, in conjunction with Standard Register (SRC), the implementation of the SRC LinkUp version of the OM Plus Advanced Print Spooling, Document Delivery and Printer Management software solution at the Walt Disney Company, the number two media conglomerate in the world.

Disney uses Standard Register's LinkUp® 4.2 for their check printing needs. Checks are run at their central facility as required and printed on printers located in remote facilities in California and Florida. Disney was looking for a solution that would allow them to produce checks centrally yet have the remote personnel release the print jobs when they were prepared to print and manage the security associated with the checks being printed at their facility. An additional requirement was for them to be able to use all the printers in a remote facility evenly to ensure longer lasting and better-utilized hardware.

Standard Register- Plus Technologies Solution
By adding LinkUp OM Plus to the LinkUp 4.2 system, Standard Register met all of the customer's requirements. LinkUp OM Plus is sold by Standard Register as an add on to LinkUp 4.2 and Enterprise.

All LinkUp 4.2 print jobs at Disney are now sent to the LinkUp OM Plus module installed on a network PC. LinkUp OM Plus receives and tracks the jobs and permits the remote personnel to control and manage the release of print jobs for their printers.  Operators now securely log into the LinkUp OM Plus system and manually release jobs one by one when they want them to be printed and when the appropriate security to control the printed checks is in place.  When in LinkUp OM Plus, the operator can see exactly how many spool jobs have been created. When the operator releases the job, LinkUp OM Plus automatically knows which printer to send the print job to so jobs are evenly spread across all the printers at a remote location.

“The overall reliability and fidelity of the check printing/delivery is increased because the Windows spooler no longer manages the LinkUp 4.2 printing,” said Mike Visser Vice President and General Manager of Plus Technologies.  Added Mr. Visser, “Additionally the remote location printers are now being effectively load balanced improving the utilization of those assets.”
