Toyota Rolls Out Plus Technologies' OM Plus at Two More Vehicle Assembly Plants in North America
Dayton, OhioThe Plus Technologies division of Digital Controls announced today that they have been selected by Toyota Motor
Manufacturing North America (TMMNA) to implement their OM Plus Advanced Print Spooling, Document Delivery and Printer Management software at two more of Toyota's North American vehicle assembly plants.
Printers located on the Toyota production floor have been installed to print instructions for production line workers.
These instructions ensure that the production line worker can correctly install the parts and components on a vehicle as it moves into their production station. These printouts must be correct (right part for the right vehicle) and "on-time" as Toyota never wants these 24x7 production lines to stop. Compounding the critical nature of the correct printout being available is the fact that these are "build to order" production lines. They are not the more traditional assembly operations where a production worker assembles the same component onto each vehicle as it goes by. These lines build vehicles to order, which requires assembly workers to know which specific components go on each vehicle based on what the customer has ordered.
However, printers will fail from time to time. Whether the printer problem is a jam, a media shortage, or another problem, printer problems happen. When problems occur, it is imperative that Toyota's MRP
Application Help Desk knows about it as soon as possible so that the problem can be resolved. The critical business problem was how to let the Help Desk know that a print problem occurred and how to give them
enough information about the problem to be able to fix it quickly (within a few minutes) before the production line was impacted.
To solve this challenge, Plus Technologies has written a special interface
for OM Plus to Toyota's Manufacturing Resource Planning Application to allow real-time printer error codes to be transmitted by OM Plus to the MRP Application Help Desk.
OM Plus captures the printer error and status information, translates that information into error codes that the application understands and sends them to the MRP Application where the Help Desk monitors their MRP and Production environments.
