Plus Technologies partners with Lexmark to Streamline Complex Document
Delivery Environment for OSF Healthcare System
Dayton, Ohio--Plus Technologies, the software division of Digital
Controls Corporation, announced today that they have been selected, in conjunction with their partner the Lexmark Professional Services organization, by OSF Healthcare System of Peoria Illinois, to implement an
organization wide Document Delivery and Print Queue Management solution based on Plus Technologies' QA Plus software and Lexmark configuration and implementation services.
As OSF's enterprise application
environment has evolved, they faced an increasingly complex environment.
They have a mainframe running the organization's legacy finance applications, they have recently installed new Tandem systems to run the hospital/patient application, and they have over 25 IBM AIX systems running PeopleSoft's H/R application as well as various other enterprise applications. With the increase in the complexity of their environment came many problems related to managing the print needs of the organization.
With over 500 printers and almost 30 servers in their environment, OSF IT personnel had found it impossible to effectively manage their print environment.
Each of the 500 printers had to be set up and configured on each server to allow the type of document printing that was required. This complex environment produced the need to manage as many as 15,000 total printer queue configurations. Not only is that a daunting, time consuming task in itself, but also it requires three different technical skill sets to manage, one each for the mainframe, Tandem and AIX platforms. Additionally, the mainframe applications could not even print to any network-attached printer without expensive, proprietary software.
"Working through a joint engagement agreement with Lexmark Professional Services, Plus Technologies has implemented a QA Plus-based print server environment at OSF to centralize their printing from their
mainframe, Tandem and AIX platforms," said Michael Visser, VP/GM of Plus Technologies. Added Visser, "In addition to centralizing and streamlining the printer management and operations process, our
solution also provides tools for OSF IT to better support end users, reduce print failures, and to integrate a third party electronic forms application into their environment."
