Plus Technologies Division of Digital Controls Partners with Lexmark to Solve Printing Process Issues
Dayton, Ohio--Plus Technologies, the software division of Digital Controls, announced today a new relationship with Lexmark International
Inc. The partnership involves the two companies combining technologies to create innovative solutions for solving printing related problems for their commercial customers. With this relationship, the companies will
have access to each others technologies and the ability to sell solutions made up from those technologies.
The Lexmark/Plus Technologies solutions will be targeted at simplifying and streamlining printing
problems that are pervasive in todays complex corporate environment. Partnering with Plus Technologies furthers Lexmark's strategy of moving toward becoming a full service print management solutions provider. With
this agreement, Lexmark will now be able to offer software based solutions for their business customers that can deliver, manage and track print jobs created on enterprise host applications, across complex,
heterogeneous networks to a number of destinations including printers, fax servers, email servers and web servers. Lexmark printer capabilities will also be enhanced as the software from Plus Technologies allows
confirmation of print job deliveries to Lexmark printers including the ability to determine when printing and sorting the document to the output tray has been completed. Other new features available to Lexmark
include the ability to automatically notify business Help Desk staff electronically and/or re-route print jobs, should jobs fail to print properly. In this way, Lexmark can now increase the reliability of critical
business document delivery.
For Plus Technologies, this partnership validates the relevance, quality, and functionality of their technology. Partnering with Lexmark is also expected to increase market
exposure to Plus Technologies products. The companies have already executed a number of customer engagements including a large project at Order of St. Francis Health Care System of Peoria, Illinois.
Printing Costs 1-3% of Corporate Revenue The cost of printing business documents can be very expensive. Printing costs typically represent 1-3% of corporate revenue, which translates into around
10-20% of overall corporate IT costs. Additionally, 40-60% of help desk calls an enterprise handles are related to printing. Solutions, like the Lexmark/Plus Technologies solutions, can reduce print related
help desk calls by 50% and reduce the cost of paper consumption by over a third. This is an important factor as CIOs, CFOs and CEOs take steps to gain control of a critical business function - and expense -
that's rapidly spiraling out of control. Despite previous predictions that paper would some day magically disappear, businesses are printing today more than ever. Xplor, an organization that tracks the
digital hardcopy printing space, estimates that paper use is growing six to eight percent each year and that the number of pages printed between 1995 and 2005 will more than double. The average worker prints 33
Internet pages each day. And, for every $1 billion of revenue, an average corporation generates 88 million sheets of paper - a pile over seven miles high.
Companies that evaluate their hardcopy
infrastructures can reduce these hard dollar costs by up to 20 percent, meaning that a $1 billion enterprise can save $2 - $6 million in output related costs each year. These savings come from optimizing output
assets, printing more intelligently and streamlining business processes by moving paper-based information back into the electronic realm utilizing products like Plus Technologies OM Plus. These digital conversions,
turning paper-based information into electronic information, can help speed up business, which can ultimately mean more revenue.
Before this partnership was put in place, customers needed to buy printers
from one vendor and the software to manage print jobs from another, said Michael Visser, VP and GM of Plus Technologies. Added Visser, With this exciting partnership, customers can now obtain a complete,
integrated print infrastructure solution from Lexmark, a leader in the printing industry.
